Y2K was a real threat which was mitigated by properly patching software problems
I wish more people understood this. The problem was very real, and with far reaching consequences. The work to patch software took place for more than a decade beforehand, with ever increasing emphasis on not bypass the issue. As the deadline drew near, it became apparent that there were not enough programmers available to handle the seemingly countless number of mainframe programs that would be affected. This was a problem solved mostly by India training more COBAL programmers than had ever existed before that time.
One of the other issues that complicated things was the fact that most clients were taking the opportunity to also update other portions of their code. You know, since there was a programmer working on it anyway.
Then to add to all of this, Europe decided to change its monetary system, and those modifications often took priority. That nearly derailed Y2K programming revisions. – We actually managed to dodge a bullet, yet when practically nothing happened, most people thought it was all just media hype.
This piece was done for one of my classes where we had to mash-up two different styles. I chose to mash-up Bioshock and Steamboat Willie. I did a lot of research into different postures that characters had, along with researching what characters could be combined. Super fun project and I’m very proud of the finished product =D
Horse riding is part of the Modern Pentathlon, which was designed by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who started the modern Olympics. That’s probably the only reason [Equestrian is] still in [the Olympics].
TIL why that sorry excuse for a sport is included alongside athletes in the Olympics.
It’s pretty bad when you’re telling yourself you’re exhausted and need to take a break because you’ve spent too long on Reddit today….
I wonder how much impact this has on my ability to deal with actual work.
I keep trying to downvote things on Tumblr and Facebook ._. It’s so infuriating that I can’t do anything about the stupidity.
